Day 11 of my 100 day project: Practicing Radical Self-Care

radical self-care, positive self-talk, 100 day project

On this journey towards expressing deeper self-compassion, self-love and loving-kindness towards myself, I realized that I need to hold myself tenderly and find simple routines and practices for my plan for radical self-care.

My tendency is to hold myself tightly, to hold in emotions, feelings, tears, worries and concerns.

As I focus on the positive self-talk, the Inner Critic wants to raise her voice and be heard, saying “But wait, what about…”

I am holding her tenderly today too, letting her know we are safe, we are loved and it’s going to be okay.

Things are being stirred up on this journey, I am aware of all the ways I avoid, deny, stuff and fail to nourish and love myself up.

I tend to rush through the shower and not take a few extra seconds, yes seconds, to put on some lotion or a little make up – just for me.

Slowing down is radical self-care

For the past few days, I have been slowing down, spending more time loving up my body in the shower with a nice scrubby brush and my favorite soap. Loving on the parts I’d rather not see and pausing to express gratitude for all the parts of my that physically carry me through my days.

And when the emotions, feelings and voices rise to the surface, I don’t push them down, I create space to witness them, experience and release whatever is showing up.

I notice I walk a little taller, stand a little straighter and sleep a little better when I take these mindful pauses to nurture myself.

I’m only 11 days in but I can’t wait to see what else shows up on the 100 day journey through drawing, writing and positive self-talk.

What rituals or routines do you find most useful for nurturing and caring for yourself?
