Creating in a Series: 100 days of collage

100 days of collage

Have you ever committed to doing a hundred day project? It’s daunting. I have half committed a few times and then found myself getting bored or distracted by some bright new shiny idea. And here I am again, committing to 100 days of collage.

I’m noticing a few things about this particular journey that are helping me stay focused. I committed to sharing 100 days of collage on my Instagram and blogging about them. I didn’t go crazy and say I would create 100 new collages, smart right? This is one of the places I can get stuck is in the commitment to doing the same thing every day.

I have a beautiful and abundant daily creative practice that I enjoy and that fills me up, but I don’t want to do the same thing every single day.

How to commit and complete a 100 day challenge

Here are a few things I’ve learned about committing to and completing a 100 day project.
1. the project can’t be too big – I have to be able to do it in a few minutes a day
2. the creative work has to be work that I love and won’t get bored with
3. the theme of my project has to be inspiring and meaningful
4. I can choose to batch create the content and share it out a day a time.

As a business owner for 20 years, I know the value of batch creating my content. It creates better content faster and takes away the headache of scrambling to get emails and blog posts written. I’m more organized and focused when I do this.

Why don’t I take my own advice and bring it over into the creative realm? Duh! Sometimes I really do have to smack my own forehead and use my own tools.

Another thing I noticed about batch creating my content is that I love to create in a series rather than make one collage here or there. That is especially true with my JourneyCircles™ or SoulCollage® work. This weekend I sat down with a set of Transformation Cards, turned them face down so I couldn’t see the messages on them, and had a blast creating these mini-canvases.

While I am used to doing this type of deep work, I was still blown away by the synchronicity and power of the connection between the words and the images – especially the fact that the boy with the fire ended up on the Ignite Your Creative Fire card! What?? This work really is magical. It’s also playful and profound. Plus I now have a series of collages to dialogue and journal with so I can find the deeper meaning and messages.

100 days of collage

There is a beautiful quote by Rumi that says, “What you seek is seeking you.”

Intuitive collage and expressive arts practices offer a unique and creative way to access our unconscious thoughts, beliefs and stories.

This type of creative play can help us answer hard questions like:

Who am I?
What is my purpose?
What is my next step?
Who am I becoming in the next phase of my life.

5-minute Intuitive Collage Process

While you might not decide to do 100 days of collage, I encourage you to grab a magazine, a glue stick and your journal or an index card and have some fun. Focus on images only, no words. Select two or three that speak to you, cut them out, glue them down and then sit with it, admire it and get really curious. I guarantee you will find a message waiting for you that you needed to here.
