Marketing Lessons from the online Art Community

This is not the post I intended to write today, I guess I will save that one for tomorrow. I was cleaning out my email inbox and came across an email from an artist blog I follow, by Marney K. Makridakis. I love the online arts and craft community. Out of the many groups I follow or participate in, this community is the most generous and is all about building relationships and sharing information, ideas, and each other!

For me, business success online or offline has always stemmed from the relationships I have built. It takes time to cultivate these relationships and create a loyal following. Life as we know it is founded in community in a million different ways. No matter how techie we get, community is still critical to our happiness and our existence.

Today I received a super fun and incredibly creative way to not only build your own popularity a fantastic way to sponsor support and generosity among your community. See Marney’s description below and see if you can create something as community-building as this for our community!

Artella’s Annual Mystery Muse Project for 2013!

Our annual project is similar to the tradition of “Secret Santas”… but with a creative twist! Sign up to be a Mystery Muse, and you’ll receive the name and snail mail address of someone else who has signed up. You will then send at least TWO creative offerings to that person during the month of February. These offerings can be absolutely anything, as long as they are two things that you created personally. You should keep your identity a secret until you send your final offering, at which time you can reveal yourself.

There’s absolutely no cost, other than your postage to mail your surprises to your assigned Muse-ee (and when you do, you even receive a li’l bonus gift from Artella in return!) So it’s completely free to participate, and is simply a fun way to start the new year with positive, supportive energy…by sharing a bit of your own creativity…while receiving a boost of inspiration from someone else’s creativity, as well!

Please feel free to invite others to participate as well, by sending them the link to this page!

What a creative idea, I love it and am definitely going to participate. If you think this sounds like fun, go here to sign up to participate.

Other marketing lessons from this community include offering weekly art challenges, sharing free templates or designs, blog hops and other community-building fun like sharing website badges.

What ideas have your tried for building and supporting your online community?

I will definitely take a look at that. I have just started joining in other challenges and pay it forward ideas in the crafts I enjoy 🙂
