What if you didn’t judge…

What if you didn’t judge where you are on your journey right now?

One of my mentors asked this question in a group coaching call last week and it made me pause, go hmmm, where am I judging myself for where I am right now?

As creative business owners and artists, judgment is an old friend that shows up over and over again to either:

Hold you back because of fear
Or judge you for not going fast enough

Often the origin of these voices is something you were told or absorbed as a child but I would also argue, loudly, that society has ingrained in you the idea that your self-worth is gauged by the level of your productivity and success not by the level of your being.

I’m going to get up on my tall soapbox right now and tell you, yes you, that you are enough.

You are enough exactly as you are right now in this moment.

Your self-worth is not tied to how much you are doing in the world but to who you are being.

It’s time to turn your Inner Critic into your Ally! This is one of my favorite activities that I teach in many of my live workshops. In fact, you can watch a recording of a FB live on this topic right now: https://mmr-content.s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Day3-Unstoppable-Creativity.mp4

If you have been judging your own progress harshly and wondering why you aren’t further ahead than you are now, stop it! Pause, take a breath and have an inner dialogue or a written dialogue with your Inner Critic to find out what’s really going on.

What’s stopping you from creating more success in your business isn’t another marketing tactic or list building or networking or any of the 1 million things you could be trying to grow your business.

What’s keeping you stuck is YOU – your beliefs, mindset, Inner Critic, stories about what you can or can’t do… combined with all the cultural stories about how creatives procrastinate, never make money, are lazy, distracted, disorganized. Damn it pisses me off to think about the deep-seated beliefs in our culture that art/writing/dance/music/fill in the blank is not a worthwhile pursuit.

Do you have a growth mindset?

Owning businesses for the past 18+ years has proven to me over and over again that being a business leader and entrepreneurs is about personal development more than business development. My journey has been a very deep one, especially in the past few years. Having a growth mindset has helped, more about my journey next week.
