Are you expecting miracles?
“When you are convinced that all the exits are blocked, either you take to believing in miracles or you stand still like the hummingbird. The miracle is that the honey is always there, right under your nose, only you were too busy searching elsewhere to realize it. the worst is not death but being blind, blind to the fact that everything about life is in the nature of the miraculous.” – Henry Miller
I loved this quote by Henry Miller and it struck me that we often spend so much time looking outside of ourselves for the answer’s to life’s hardest questions that we fail to give ourselves credit for what we do know or what we can intuit. Learning to trust in the miraculous nature of life trains us to expect miracles at every turn.
The quote also inspired the Zentangle-inspired art piece of the hummingbird. I have been so busy lately that I have not spent enough time in my craft room. This weekend reminded me that cutting myself off from creative expression is like creating a blocked exit into my own inner life and spirit. Not spending time and energy making something blinds me to the messages of joy, the relaxation and the simple pleasure I experience when I make art.
What blocks are you unwittingly creating in your life? What are you avoiding or refusing to see?
