What-is-a-midlife-Renaissance

What is a Midlife Renaissance

I like to think of a midlife renaissance as a coming of age for the mature adult. All of your trials, challenges, gifts and talents have primed you to step into a new role of your choosing.

A midlife renaissance feels like a brilliant sunrise after a long and tranquil night. Just as the sun rises, casting its vibrant hues across the sky, a midlife renaissance represents a period of renewal and awakening. It signifies the emergence of a new chapter in your life, where your passions, desires,…

7 Reasons Why Making Art is Good for You

I’ve been thinking a lot about why I do what I do and how to describe it better, it’s so tricky sometimes to find the words.

What I can tell you right now is that I am passionate about using creative process as a form of radical self-care.

I also thought about all the reasons why I make art and how they serve me. Here are 7 of my favorite reasons why making art is good for you!

You don't have to take my word for it, studies at various universities and by the American Art Ther…

Two Words to Avoid for Deep Connection

"I'm fine" are two words to avoid if you want to create a deep connection to yourself, to others and to Spirit.

I distinctly remember a day in grad school in Austin, TX where I was working on my Masters in Latin American Studies. I was walking to class when I passed my friend Luke in a stairwell. He asked how I was. “I’m fine,” I replied. “Hmmm,” he said, “you always say that, is that the truth?”

Me, Mary Oliver and Positive Self-Talk

I have always loved Mary Oliver’s poem “The Summer Day” and her now famous lines “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?

Today I have the opportunity to be here, enjoy, love, take care, connect, celebrate, nurture and nourish myself and others.

Today I get to choose how I will spend my time, energy and talents.

What mi…

Inspired by a Gloria Steinem quote

Gloria Steinem has a lot of great quotes but this was one I hadn't seen before.

Do you ever read something and feel like you’ve been gobsmacked over the head with a nerf bat?

No? Yes? It seems to happen to me A LOT!

It could be because of how much I read or it could be because I believe the universe drops me (and you) nuggets of insight when we most need them.

I was flipping through a magazine looking for collage images when I spotted this quote by Gloria Steinem:

“Without le…

Visual Journaling Page Inspired by rupi kuar

I love the poet rupi kaur. Her short poems are full of depth and insights that often make me catch my breath.

This is one of those poems:

it was when i stopped searching for home within others

and lifted the foundations of home within myself

I found there were no roots more intimate

than those between a mind and body

that have decided to be whole

-rupi kuar

Those first two lines really caught my attention and by the time I found my way to the final two lines, I sat wit…

Now I become myself by May Sarton

Hooray, it's National Poetry Month! Well every month is poetry month in my home.

You may not care about poetry as much as I do and that’s okay. I’m not here to change your mind.

Well, maybe I might change your mind a little bit. Especially when there are such magical poems and brilliant poets in the world, new and old.

I thought I would share a beautiful poem by May Sarton with you today and a few different ways that I might use this particular poem as a prompt for art and writing.
