Why is Picking a Niche So Important?

I have been participating in the Ultimate Blog Challenge since July 1. I missed posting yesterday as I am at a training in Tucson, AZ as part of Kendall Summerhawk’s fabulous Stars coaching program. Our focus yesterday was on defining and clarifying our niche as an important first step in building our business or growing it to a new level. No matter how clear I think I am, there is always more work to be done.

I understand the value of defining your niche and have seen firsthand how it has helped me to grow my business. I am constantly working with my clients to choose a niche and identify their ideal client – it’s one of the biggest reasons why they aren’t meeting their financial goals. So I was thrilled to to find Kimberely Wiggins’ excellent post titled Niche to Be Rich through the Ultimate Blog Challenge. I want to thank Kimberley for allowing me to share her unique vision of what a niche is on my post today. This is a beautiful vision of what serving your niche should look and feel like.

Niche To Be Rich

I know, the cliché “niche to be rich” is kind of corny when you read it and it is said so often it is old hat (sorry I am a country girl) but it does really mean something important to me.  Now some people may mention this in the content of being materially wealthy when you have drilled down to a specific niche but that’s not how I see it.  You know me, I am that “process thinker” so I really think about things before accepting it for face value.

When I say niche to be rich, I am thinking of what riches I obtain by fully being in sync with my ideal tribe.  The kinds of riches I get far exceed anything monetary or material. Now my tribe can tell you that I personally make it a rule to not, yes I said NOT, market to them all the time.  I only make carefully strategic offerings to them that I know would help my community grow, learn and succeed.  Nothing else.  I am a part of some communities where marketing to me is a daily thing and I am ok with that because that is the nature of the beast per se and I understand that.  So I am ok with them marketing to me because I am only going to buy what I really want and need.  But I value my tribe so much more than that they are not just a meal ticket for me.  They are my community, they are my friends, they are my PEEPS and I don’t take that for granted.

Niche to be rich represents three important things for me.  The reasons that you really need to niche to be rich are for you to be able to enrich these three things that are super important for you with your ideal tribe.

  1. Relationships – having great clarity around your niche will ensure that you have created a tribe of people where you can build strong relationships with them.  The reason the bonding is so strong is simply because you are with a group of people where you all dance to the same beat of the same drum.  You understand, appreciate and know what the needs/wants are of the group.  When that magic happens and you are swaying in the wind together like daisies in a field, it is just beautiful. So rich and beautiful.  Wait and see, one day you will agree.
  2. Confidence – one of the greatest things about having that niche you know so well is that there is no fear.  You can speak openly, honestly and authentically with them without the fear of them being judgmental.  There is no need for judgment with them or with you because you understand your peeps and they you.  It provides you with the confidence to step out and be who you were meant to be with boldness and self assurance.  It’s such a wonderful feeling of richness.
  3. Integrity and trust – Yes, these are the big guns.  You need these without a doubt and niching helps you to develop a solid foundation with your tribe of integrity and trust.  It allows you to always want to give the best value to your group and never compromise that.  And it affords them the opportunity to trust in that relationship between you and them and never doubt that.  The abundance in just that thought is overflowing.  That is being rich at the core.

So remember these three things the next time you see this often used saying.  Change the meaning of it in your mind so that you can really get the feel for being able to “spread the wealth” in your tribe and love it.

Are you ready to niche to be rich?  How are you doing that in building your tribe? Would love for you to share your feedback for Kimberley in the comments below.

Minette, great post. So often people try to be everything to everybody and it doesn’t work out well for the company or the client.

Well put Richelle! I think women in particular struggle with trying to be everything to everybody!

Knowing your niche is important. I have learned though you can find your niche, you must be able to articulate your niche well. And, that does come from confidence. Great post and awesome suggestions for us to niche to be rich.

You are so right, Jewel, that the more confident we become, the easier it is to claim and identify our niche!

Great post Minette and Kimberley! I think people are often too afraid to niche, but we really cannot be all things to all people, and certainly, we cannot be all things to ourselves either. By this I mean, we only have so many hours in a day, in a week, in a lifetime – getting down to the business of what and where we should be spending our time and efforts is paramount to living a giving and fulfilling life (at least in my humble opinion). Thanks for these 3 great areas of focus, love them!
