Create a Marketing Muse to Support You in Your Business in 2015

What will it take to keep the momentum going and to keep you on task and focused on building your business in 02015? Two thing – accountability and creativity. I find that creative women entrepreneurs need someone in their life and business to hold them accountable, to be their cheerleader and their champion when they get frustrated or stuck.

Do you have someone like that in your life currently? It might be a business partner, a spouse, a girlfriend or a business coach like me. One of the biggest challenges of being an entrepreneur, especially if you work from home, is the isolation. At times you will feel lonely, disconnected and perhaps even crazy. It’s important to surround yourself with positive support. It’s also important to remember that we can be our own best teacher and source of support.

Over the past few months, I have been working on certification as an ARTbundance™ Facilitator. One of our ARTsignments™ was to create a Muse to support us on our creative journey through training. Today, I want to invite you create a Marketing Muse to support you on your entrepreneurial journey. This is a great time of year for reflecting back on what you have created so far in 2014 and what you want to do differently in 2015.

You might create a Million Dollar Muse, Prosperity Muse, Abundance Muse, Spiritual Marketing Muse… You get to decide where you need the most support right now and in the future.

You can use any creative techniques or media to create your Muse. A few ideas include (but are not limited to):

  • Make a collaged paper doll
  • Doodle, draw, or paint an image of her
  • Draw her facial features on a rock
  • Build her out of materials you have on hand (buttons, boxes, coins, Styrofoam balls, soup cans, etc.)
  • Embellish or alter an existing image (i.e., the Mona Lisa, a vintage photo of your
  • great-great aunt, an appealing image from a magazine, etc.)
  • Create a piece of digital art

Important Note: This activity is not about demonstrating artistic skill, but about connecting to a supportive energy that is within you, personifying it, and then expressing it via creativity.

To begin this process, close your eyes and allow yourself to relax. Imagine that you could really have a Muse who would suddenly come to life before you, and remain at your side whenever you needed her. What do you need MOST from this Muse? What kind of guidance, support, advice, or encouragement do you want?

As you work on your creation, think about your strongest, most powerful wishes and dreams for your business in the new year and allow that positive energy to become infused in every part of the Muse’s being!

After your Muse is complete (or at least, complete for now…you can always continue to work on her later), write a letter to her, articulating what you need from her the most. Allow yourself to write deeply, from your heart, expressing your deepest fears and worries, as well as your most powerful dreams and wishes.

You might want to begin it something like this….

Dear Muse,

I am so glad you are here with me on this journey. I am feeling ___________ and I

really need ___________________.

You will not be sharing this letter with anyone (unless you want to), so feel free to write from your heart.

Next, think of some place that you can go that is very comfortable, where you and your Muse feel both inspired and secure. For example, you might want to go outdoors and sit underneath a beautiful tree, or perhaps curl up in bed under a favorite quilt.

Bring with you:

  • Your Muse
  • Your original letter
  • Your journal, or pen and paper

Once you are in your cozy spot, situate the Muse so that you can look straight at her, and she at you. And then read your letter to her, out loud if at all possible. Read slowly and expressively, so that she (and you!) can truly take in the entire range of your feelings, so that she can be of the greatest help to you.

Take your journal or pen and paper, and now write a letter FROM your Muse…it could start something like this:

Dear Minette,

I am so glad that you told me everything in that letter. I am here for you! I want to tell you….

Again, you will not be sharing this letter with anyone, unless you would like to.

Complete the letter, and give your Muse a big hug; be sure to put her somewhere special, where she can continue to inspire you on a daily basis! Your Muse is there to offer loving guidance and support. This is also a fun, creative way to connect with your own inner teacher and to trust the voice within that knows exactly what to do next. Whenever you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed or fearful, you can have a dialogue with your Muse, ask her a question or just connect with her for a moment of quiet reflection.

On a recent trip I found a lovely, soft stuffed moose. I rarely buy things like this so I was surprised…. I think you’ve given me a wonderful next step to take with this delightful critter. 🙂

Really liked this blog! I already envision who makes up this muse and look forward to my letter writing and communication with her. Brilliant tool!!!
(And just when I have been communicating that I would love a good mentor/support right now! And then you brought me this idea! G-d works in wonderful ways!)
